Giving Back

Rejuvence Clinic, from its very inception, has been focussed on ensuring we are committed to charitable causes that are close to the hearts of its founders Dr Ruhul Amin and Dr Sam Ghani. With our continued success and growth, we as an institution, are dedicated to Corporate Social Responsibility. As such Rejuvence Clinic has officially committed to supporting the Grameen Welfare Smile Trust (UK Registered Charity No: 1126521). This is a small charity set up by Dr Ghani’s father Mr Abul Khair Abdul Ghani. It fundraises for a variety of projects set up in Dr Ghani’s ancestral rural village in Bangladesh – Noakhali.

We want to share this journey with our amazing patients and hope that you will be kind enough to make a small donation and help us sustain our efforts to support these noble causes.

Mr Abdul Ghani’s Story - Grameen Smile Welfare Trust

We would like to share the inspiring story of Abul Khair Abdul Ghani and his remarkable journey from a rural village in Bangladesh to becoming a consultant general surgeon in the UK, and ultimately giving back to his community through education. His determination to overcome obstacles in pursuit of his dreams and his unwavering commitment to improving educational opportunities in his native village is truly commendable.

Here are the key highlights of his journey:

  1. Early Life and Education Challenges: Born in a rural area of Bangladesh – Noakhali, Abul Khair faced significant challenges accessing education due to limited infrastructure and resources. Despite these difficulties, he pursued his primary and high school education with determination.
  2. Higher Education and Career in Medicine: After completing his schooling, he moved to Dhaka, where he studied at a prestigious government college and later trained at Dhaka Medical College. Following his medical education, he moved to the UK, trained as a surgeon, and specialised in breast surgery, becoming a consultant general surgeon.
  3. A Vision for Giving Back: Driven by a desire to uplift his native community, Abul Khair chose to focus on improving education in his rural area. In 2011, he purchased a 1 acre plot of land to establish a school and founded the Grameen Smile Welfare Trust in the UK to fundraise and support this initiative. This school has been named the Momtazenessa Memorial School & College.
  4. Building the School and Expanding Access to Education: Initially, the school began with one floor and a handful of students. Over time, it expanded to include multiple floors, a playground, and facilities for kindergarten, high school, and sixth form (intermediate college).
    • The school grew from offering basic education to achieving recognition as a well-established high school, with students excelling in SSC examinations (equivalent to O-Levels).
    • Recognising the lack of local sixth form colleges, Abul Khair added intermediate college classes to provide higher education opportunities for students in the area.

Sustained Support and Growth: Abul Khair’s efforts have been supported by his family, friends, and the broader community through fundraising and donations. By 2020, the school had become a comprehensive educational institution, addressing the needs of students from kindergarten to sixth form.

Abul Khair’s story exemplifies the transformative power of education and the importance of giving back to one’s roots. His efforts have created a lasting impact on his community, offering generations of children access to quality education and brighter futures.

Dr Sam Ghani - A son’s perspective

My father’s story beautifully outlines the profound dedication and effort he has invested over the years in developing the Momtazenessa Memorial School & College, alongside his professional endeavors and charity work. It reflects a story of resilience, community support, and a deep commitment to improving the lives of those in rural areas.

Since 2011, with the unwavering support of our family, friends, and local community, my father has worked tirelessly to establish and sustain the Momtazenessa Memorial School & College in a rural area of Bangladesh. Through charity fundraising and personal subsidies, we were able to hire qualified teachers and staff to maintain the quality of education. This institution was named in memory of my grandmother, who passed away when my father was only three years old, and it stands as a testament to her legacy.

Despite continuing his professional career in the UK, particularly in London, my father has always remained committed to this educational initiative. Over the past year, after retiring from the NHS, my father has joined me at Rejuvence Clinic to perform minor surgeries such as circumcisions (Circumcision Pro) and lumps and bumps procedures. Rejuvence Clinic has given me the opportunity to work side by side with my father at a clinic that I have worked extremely hard to establish and develop alongside my co-founder and close friend Dr Ruhul Amin. This was all thanks to the upbringing and love of my mother and father. I am now proud to say that Rejuvence Clinic will support my father’s charitable endeavours and together we hope to do more for the people of rural Bangladesh.

Transforming education for girls

The Momtazenessa Memorial School & College has brought transformative change to the community. Previously, girls in this area could only access primary education due to cultural and infrastructural limitations. Today, 60% of the students are girls, and many students now achieve SSC or O-Level qualifications. Each year, 40 to 60 students progress from the school to the college, creating opportunities that were once unimaginable. Rejuvence Clinic and Grameen Smile Welfare Trust aim remains to elevate the standard of education and expand these opportunities further.

“The best charity is giving water to drink”

In addition to education, Grameen Smile Welfare Trust has supported various humanitarian efforts in Bangladesh. During floods, we provided relief to deprived areas and funded the installation of deep clean water systems in rural communities, ensuring access to safe drinking water.

Final Words from Mr Abdul Ghani - founder of Momtazenessa Memorial School & College

‘I take immense pride in the progress of the Momtazenessa Memorial School & College and am optimistic about its future. I hope to continue receiving support from my son and the Rejuvence Clinic family. I am hopeful that many of our generous patients at Rejuvence will support us in this endeavour and donate to our cause to be able to sustain and expand our efforts. This journey has been both humbling and fulfilling, and I am thankful to all who have contributed to this cause.’

Donations and charitable contributions

At Rejuvence we are extremely passionate about this cause. We would be delighted if all our clients would be generous enough to make donations to the Grameen Smile Welfare Trust when they visit our clinic. We are committed to working with this charity hand in hand to continue the great work they are doing with a particular focus on helping to secure the future of Momtazenessa Memorial School & College. With your support we hope to establish a primary care medical centre adjacent to the school and continue to give back.
