Many men consider getting a circumcision for medical and/or lifestyle reasons. However, following discussions with their surgeon, are put off by a procedure that can take up to 1 hour with a recovery that can take 4 to 6 weeks.
Recently there has been interest in using a mechanical device for circumcision. This device should carry out the cutting and closure of the inner and outer skin using staples and perform the circumcision quickly, with minimal blood loss, short wound healing time, consistently produce a uniform scar that is cosmetically pleasing and above all improves patient satisfaction.
The use of staples for wound closure goes back several decades. The use of titanium staples to close wounds is fast, practical and strong. The risk of wound breakdown is rare. Surgical staples have been employed for surgical procedures since the early 20th Century.
CircCurer (Lang He) is a modern medical device, CE certified – a new circular stapler disposable circumcision device invented in 2009 in China that is designed to reduce pain and complications associated with traditional circumcision. It was inspired by the circular end-to-end stapling devices and end-to-end anastomosis stapler commonly used in bowel anastomosis procedures.
It includes two parts: an inner bell and an outer bell. The inner bell is designed to protect the glans. The outer bell comprises a circular blade to cut the foreskin and staples to close the wound for simultaneous haemostasis. The circular blade that surrounds the penis, is then used to remove the foreskin in a single sweep. Subsequently the stapler is used to suture the wound, completing the procedure quickly and effectively in a single action.
The device is a disposable stapler that is used to excise the foreskin and create a clean and precise circumcision. The CircCurer Stapler™ is designed to be easy to use, fast, and efficient, and can perform circumcisions in just a few minutes.
The procedure starts with the application of a dorsal penile nerve block and ring block with local anaesthetic. The surgeon then identifies the position of the coronal sulcus before marking the proposed site of circumcision. The device is then inserted over the penis and the foreskin is pulled through the device. The device is activated, stapling the inner and outer skin together and simultaneously cutting off the foreskin. The procedure is then complete and the staples will fall off on their own after 2-4 weeks.
The benefits of using the CircCurer device for circumcision include:
1. Dramatically reduced time to perform circumcision, usually 4-8 minutes
2. Reduced blood loss,
3. Reduced healing time – as quick as 2 weeks in some cases
4. Consistent excellent cosmetic outcomes
5. Reduced pain and discomfort for the patient.
6. Reduced risk of infection and cross-contamination
The CircCurer™ Stapler is an innovative medical device that has the potential to revolutionise the way circumcisions are performed around the world.
At Circumcision Pro, we believe this technique is the future of circumcision surgery and are confident that this is a game changer leading to many such procedures being carried out in the future.
We as surgeons are very happy to perform this procedure and the patients/clients are very impressed with less postoperative pain and bleeding, faster healing time, reduced swelling, reduced bruising and a very neat scar. This really is a win-win situation for the surgeon and patient.
The cosmetic results are excellent with 100% of patients reporting that they were either ‘happy’ or ‘very happy’ with the outcome of their procedure. Nearly all of the patients would recommend or strongly recommend the technique.
